I Didn’t Clean Up For The New Year, And Why I Don’t Care.

I usually try to bring in the New Year with the house in order, my to do list done for the week, and dinner for two. There’s been times where I have taken a few days from work to do what I call, spring cleaning in the winter. However, this usually leaves me exhausted before midnight. Last year I was so exhausted I brought the new year in with my eyes closed. I didn’t see the ball drop.

This year I decided to change things up. Click To Tweet

This year I decided to change things up. I did not worry about organizing papers, although I have a new shredder. I felt like the idea of having all my laundry clean for the new year was cliché , so I didn’t clean any. I had no desire to cook, even for two. So, when my husband said, we’re invited to my brother-in-law’s for dinner, it was confirmation that I needed to relax.

I did just that!

The way I see it, I am going to be a busy little lady in 2016. I need to learn the value in having down time. I don’t need to overwhelm myself with things, people, and or my own expectations that can sometimes be, well you know, an anxiety attack waiting to happen.

So, no I didn’t clean up, and I don’t care. I didn’t make a fuss over any to do list. I just chilled, with good company, good food, and good music until the count down of the new year. I stayed out late, like the days when I was in my twenties. Woke up to go to work at 7am. I came home, I looked at the mess and said, yeah I am gonna need another day of rest.

Wishing You A Happy Guilt Free 2016!

  • Girl me neither! I really was looking forward to some R&R during my time off. My brain is on vacation mode until I head back to work on Monday. I feel self-care and taking time to treat ourself is just as important to our overall well-being.

    • Amen to that Anekia. Sometimes you just need to sit back and relax. And it can’t always be when we take a vacation away from home either. I hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation.

<3 This! I think that's a great idea to focus on downtime. One of my goals for this year is to focus more on me. The mess can wait for another day girl. #BLMGirl

    • Thanks for reading Starkey. Yes, the mess can wait!

  • Love that you chose to do what was best for you. It so easy to get caught up with the rituals of what you “should” do to bring in the new year that we lose sight of what we really want to do. Happy 2016!
