My Get Out Of A Funk List

I read “60 Small(ish) Things That Make Me Happier.” It’s a list of 60 things Emma Gannon has done when she’s in a funk.

We’ve all been there, I know I have. But it wasn’t until I read Gannon’s list, that I realized I do some of those things too. And yeah, they do have a way of getting me out of my funk.

She called her list a little “cheesy.” But I thought it was a cute idea. And soon I wanted to play along. So, here’s my list of things I’ve done that has brought a little happiness to my life.

MY GET OUT OF A FUNK LIST…

  1. Pray. Sometimes when I just don’t feel content with life, I get on my knees and pray. You just have to get in God’s presence to feel good sometimes.
  2. Seeing the glass as half full. There’s always a blessing in the midst of a mess. I like to see the blessing instead of dwelling on the mess. If I can.
  3. Write things I am grateful for. I have been doing this every day for a few weeks now, and it has put things in perceptive. Despite where I think I should be in life, I am blessed with the life I have.
  4. Writing about whatever comes to my head in my journal with no distractions.
  5. I love long walks with my husband and Mr. B. It’s soothing.
  6. Watching my husband play with Mr. B. I love to see my husband in a playful mood and Mr. B does that for him.
  7. Laying on my husband’s chest, watching TV.
  8. Sitting next to Mr. B on the floor while writing.
  9. Eating. Good food is always satisfying.
  10. Watching the food network or the cooking channel and finding out little cooking secrets.
  11. Watching something funny.
  12. Reading a good book. A page turner. Something that will take my mind into a different world.
  13. Buying myself flowers. One time I bought myself a bunch of Iris’s and had them shipped to my house. It made me smile when they arrived.
  14. Having a cup of tea. I love to make my tea in the old fashion tea-kettle. Waiting to hear the whistle blow, then it’s piping hot. Too hot to drink, but once it cools off with my cup of half & half the first few sips are so comforting.
  15. Getting a new hairstyle. Oh, how I need that right now.
  16. Getting my eyebrows done. When I do my eyebrows, my face looks done even without makeup.
  17. OMG! I thought it was just me that love a well-made bed, with fresh sheets. I giggled when I saw that on Gannon’s list.
  18. Taking a day off Guilt free. Yes, I am a big believer in Me-time.
  19. Have a picnic with a great view.
  20. Hanging out with my mom and sister.
  21. Visiting someone who was not expecting it. Have you ever surprise someone and just showed up to love on them for the day. It will have you both smiling. Just make sure the person love surprises.
  22. Sending a just thinking of you note to someone. Although I can’t see their faces when they get the note. I can just imagine how they felt to receive something that says I was thinking about them.
  23. Getting a massage at my favorite spot.
  24. The feeling I get after I made Carrot cake and my family and friends all say how delicious it was. Aunt Audrey I didn’t forget you. I know I still have to make you one.
  25. Go shopping for house decor. For some reason, shopping for the house relaxes me.
  26. Going out the first night of the weekend. My husband taught me this one. It makes the weekend feel longer.
  27. Listening to an inspiring podcast.
  28. Date night with my husband.
  29. Getting dressed up for date night.
  30. Having mommy-time with my mom.
  31. Chocolate.
  32. An ice-cold SPRITE.
  33. Sitting in the warmth of the sun.
  34. Bubble bath, eating chocolate.
  35. Encouraging someone else to live their dreams.
  36. The time I went to hang out with my brother-in-law and his girlfriend. It was cool, he had another couple over and cooked for us. It made me feel good to see my husband have a good time with his family.
  37. Yoga. I am in the beginner stages, and I don’t do it often. But when I do, it’s a peaceful moment.
  38. Hanging around my God-daughter. I love that little girl.
  39. Hanging out with the kids at my sister’s daycare. Just for a little bit anyway.
  40. Watching a good movie.
  41. Going to church. I have not been in a while, but I remember going to church hearing a word that inspires me to give God my best and to be my best. Love it. I need to get back to this.
  42. Laugh. Have you ever had a good hardy laugh? Like bellyaching kind of laugh. Those are the best.
  43. When I mastered something, I had a hard time learning.
  44. When I write a piece that I am so proud of that I keep reading it over and over.
  45. Dancing. Not a choreographic dance. More like a silly, shake your booty, act crazy kind of dance.
  46. Listening to my old school music.
  47. Bowling. Even if I lose, I can always walk away from that game with a smile.
  48. Playing a fun cooking game on my iPhone. (Please let me know if you know of any.)
  49. Daydreaming.
  50. Running with Mr. B — I just started running with him on our night walks. Finally, he’s letting me run with him without jumping on me.  And it’s so much fun. Plus I get a quick work out.
  51. Talking about writing with other writers.
  52. Reading inspirational stories. In particular of women or men who work hard for their success.
  53. Going to get my face made up by a professional. Especially when they do a great job on my face.
  54. Taking professional pictures.
  55. Taking a really good selfie.
  56. Smile at someone, when they smile back it’s awesome.
  57. Taking pictures of food and posting them.
  58. Reading blog posts and leaving comments.
  59. Finding new blogs.
  60. Writing blog posts for yall.

Well, that’s it. I think this should do. And the next time I am in my funk, I will have to do something off this list. What about you? What are some things you do as a pick-me-up?

Great list! I should try one every day for the next 2 months!

    • That sounds like fun. I didn’t think about acutually doing my list intentionally. I might have to do that. Great idea Kelly.
